CHAPTER FIVE

IT WAS the start of a week so idyllic Georgia knew in her heart it had to come to an end. The closer she got to Link the more emotional radiation she sustained. His personality was so vivid, so vital, she felt enormously energised just to be with him. They continued their running, swimming, diving, even fishing, getting in so much exercise it was possible to enjoy the wonderful food so lavishly on offer. Australian waters yielded luscious seafood, and the Great Barrier Reef waters, the best. Often they took Leon with them on strolls and reef walks when the tides were right. The little boy seemed to live for these outings, and she quickly realised Link Robards was as fond of children as she was. In fact he told her he adored his two little nieces from his sister Patrice’s marriage. His younger sister, Kimberley, was newly married and longed to start a family. His mother had been urging him towards matrimony for some considerable time. It all came out in the course of the days.

Leon, although vastly entertaining, didn’t show a lot of promise as a swimmer. His main problem was he disliked ducking his head underwater. But with help from both of them he was making progress. His piano playing, on the other hand, was marvellous for one so young. Enough for Georgia to organise an afternoon concert for any of the guests who wished to come along. First she had to get Adam’s permission, but he seemed more amused than actively interested. All his talk was of his budding symphonic work. Georgia had already made sure both he and Leon had daytime access to the baby grand in the Hideaway, the venue for Leon’s concert, but there wasn’t the slightest indication from Adam he would attend, let alone offer an item or join his son in a duet. He had more serious things on his mind. It was Georgia who thought out a piece for four hands. She had intended to take the more difficult part, but it soon became obvious Leon was more than capable of handling it. It was his concert, after all.

On that particular Friday afternoon Georgia was delighted to see the island nightclub not only well filled, but packed. Even her uncle had made time to attend, but after handing Leon over to her, Adam had returned to his musical labyrinths, a fact that made Link stare at her in disbelief.

“What kind of a father is he?” he demanded.

“He cares about him, Link.” .

“He doesn’t care enough. I’m getting tired of the way he lies in wait for you, too. Isn’t he able to visualize his own sea goddess without fixating on you?”

“It’s artistic stimulation, that’s all,” Georgia pointed out soothingly. “Don’t worry about it.”

His black brows knotted. “I’m worried he mightn’t just be satisfied with looking. You don’t need that kind of hassle.”

Indeed she didn’t. What she was trying to do was help Leon, but even that mightn’t work out. Leon was now looking on her and Link as honorary aunt and uncle.
